I. A Candid Look

Successful marriages are always changing. Before your relationship can improve, you need to find out what is working and what is not. Using the latest assessment techniques, we will help you to identify the strengths and weaknesses in your marriage. When you understand your marriage and understand each other, the possibilities are limitless. The following research tested methods will be utilized: questionnaire, videotape & interview analysis.

Through the Looking Glass: Questionnaire Analysis

Understanding how you currently work together is the first step to understanding how to work more effectively in the future. Before our first meeting, each of you will spend about an hour completing a detailed set of questions that are designed to identify the positives and negatives in your relationship. Your answers will be analyzed and will provide a unique window into your spouse’s thoughts and feelings for the following dimensions of your relationship:

  • Love & Respect
  • Fondness & Admiration
  • Distance & Isolation
  • Loneliness
  • Gridlock & Compromise
  • Hopes & Dreams

Seeing is Believing: Videotape Analysis

Golfers analyze their swing, actors analyze their performance, and politicians analyze their speeches. Couples need to analyze the way they talk to each other. Using video feedback you will have the opportunity to watch yourselves communicate. You will get to see exactly what your spouse sees when you talk to each other. Opening this window into your relationship will give you a new perspective into communicating with your spouse.

Telling Your Story: Interview Analysis

Interviews with both of you together and each of you individually provides information that is critical to understanding your marriage. Interviews are targeted and structured to gain an understanding of your relationship using a scale of 17 specific marital dynamics.

Putting It All Together: Written Assessment

Reviewing all of the many pieces of information from your written assessments, videotape analysis and your personal interviews you are presented with a written assessment of how your marriage is working and what areas can be strengthened. During this ninety-minute feedback meeting, you will learn what works in your marriage and what needs to change.

II. The Path to Prosperity

Over the course of eight meetings, you will be introduced to a new way of understanding your relationship. By creating and implementing your “marital roadmap”, you can join together to improve the quality of your life, your communication, your sexual relationship and make your marriage more satisfying for both of you.

Understanding the current state of your marriage is the first step. Armed with the insights learned from the candid look at your relationship, you and your spouse will now join together to develop a shared vision for your marriage and the path to achieve that vision. You will maximize your ability to work together, play together and laugh together while encouraging each other to reach your individual life goals. Learn the strategies that will allow you and your spouse to:

  • Stay friends
  • Solve those problems that can be solved
  • Understand those problems that never disappear
  • Fight for your marriage
  • Stay connected
  • Share your hopes & dreams.

Working every step of the way with you and your spouse, Miles Wagman, MSW, LCSW, LMFT, a NJ licensed marriage and family therapist, will use his knowledge and more than twenty five years of experience to help both husband and wife maximize their strengths and eliminate their destructive patterns so they can achieve their shared goals.

III. Going the Distance

The research is unequivocal. Couples that stay in touch with their marriage counselor are more likely to be successful in maintaining the growth in their marriage. During the two months following our last meeting, we will talk on the phone and by email to discuss tools to keep your marriage on the right path towards prosperity.
