Couples in Distress

Solutions for Couples in Distress

Couples often develop destructive methods of dealing with life’s problems –and are not aware of the damage to their relationship. Professional intervention is necessary to find the solutions that help couples to feel satisfied in their relationship. The counseling services offered at The Relationship Center are designed to help couples understand the issues that are causing distress in their relationships, repair the damage, and develop more constructive methods to improve the way they cope with stress.

Issues that may require professional intervention

  • Infidelity
  • Destructive communication
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Family issues
  • Parenting problems
  • Loss of passion
  • Separation & divorce issues
  • Assessment

To pinpoint the patterns in your relationship and life that cause the most amount of strife, we use a combination of marital assessment questionnaires, interviews (both joint and individual), and video-taped evaluations of your communication style. To have these tendencies reflected back to you will help raise awareness of your own negative habits and will make it easier to correct them. Only after a thorough understanding of your marital problems will you be able to commit to a course of treatment for you and your partner. [I’ve been having trouble understanding what you mean here. Is it a “No commitment necessary!” or is it “you won’t be able to successful go through treatment until you really understand the pain”]

Treatment Plan

The couple works with the director of The Relationship Center, Miles Wagman, MSW, LCSW, LMFT, a N.J. Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Marriage & Family Therapist. He has been working with couples for more than 30 years to improve the way they function in their relationships. The treatment is structured to maximize the couple’s strengths and eliminate destructive patterns in their relationship. Your progress is monitored throughout treatment.

Follow-up Phase

To insure that progress is maintained, follow-up sessions are scheduled prior to the end of counseling. They occur at specific intervals that based on the couple’s specific needs. These sessions can be held either in our offices or conducted by telephone.

One advantage of marriage It seems to me Is that when you fall out of love with him, Or he falls out of love with you, It keeps you together until maybe you fall in again.
